Garage Band (rock & roll comedy)
“Garage Band” is the story of Paul Cooper’s lifelong dream to "play the Palace." In a nutshell it’s “Wild Hogs” only with a rock and roll band instead of a biker gang.
Paul has been getting together with his college band mates for a week every summer to record the songs they’ve written during the year. But when Paul comes home from the thirty-eighth annual “Gassmen recording session” the itch to play live finally has to be scratched. And so he auditions to be the bass player with a much younger band. When the crowds start clamoring for Gassmen tunes things look pretty good.
But the night comes when the young band is booked for its biggest concert ever. Paul is met at the stage door by Stu, the manager who says, “We got somebody else to cover your bass parts on stage tonight because you just look too old, man.”
A few days later, as Paul drowns his sorrows at a local bar, he spots a poster that says, “Battle of the Bands - - The winner plays the Palace.” There’s not going to be a better chance than this and so Paul sets out to convince his old band buddies to sign up, tighten up and knock off the rust.
There’s a lot of rust to knock off and the Gassmen barely squeak by their shaky first round. After that they hit their stride.
The Gassmen reach the finals where they go head-to-head with the young band that threw Paul out. The young band is playing Gassmen tunes – and of course the Gassmen are playing Gassmen tunes, so it all comes down to: can the old guys finally prove that they’ve got what it takes?

It ain't very polished but this clip will give you a little idea of what I have in mind. Yes, that's me on bass. There really are Gassmen and we really have been playing for over forty years. Enjoy!
